A Simple Tool for Getting the Most from Your First Year at Weber State University

    Last updated 14 days ago

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you first start college. What you need is a trick that will help make that first part of your college experience easier. WSU has an answer for that.

First Year Experience (FYE) is a program designed to connect new students with the tools they need to succeed at Weber State University. No matter your background, FYE’s Foundations of College Success courses will arm you with the knowledge you need to have a successful and satisfying college experience.

    Through FYE you’ll:

Learn how to manage your time: The secret to success in college is learning to develop an efficient daily schedule. The better you become at making time for homework and studying, the easier it will be for you to complete everything that needs to be finished. FYE will teach you the personal study skills and time management skills you need in order to have a successful college career.

Discover campus services and resources: No one has to face the challenges of college on their own. WSU has a lot of campus resources for students, from the library to the health center, which can make it easier to get through college and stay positive. FYE will show you what those resources are and how to use them.

Explore possible majors and careers: Not everyone arrives at college knowing what they want to do with their lives. Even those who think they have made up their minds often find their interests and goals change after they begin taking classes. FYE gives you the chance to explore the wide array of majors available at WSU and also offers a guide to the many possible paths your life can take after graduation.

Connect with other students: Meeting and working alongside new people is one of the great opportunities the college experience provides. In FYE, you will be partnered with peer mentors who will work with you both in and out of the classroom, ensuring that you have everything you need to successfully transition into campus life.

Even if this isn’t your first year in college, the things FYE can teach you will help you make your college experience a better one. If you want to learn more about FYE, ask about our academic programs or financial aid, visit us online at GetintoWeber.com. Or you can call us today at 801-528-9452—we have the degree you want.

Hosted by the Jerry and Vickie Moyes College of Education, Continuing Education, and the Utah State Office of Education, this annual conference gives attendees the chance to swap insights with other education professionals and researchers and brainstorm new ideas for effective strategies in the classroom.

Aimed at elementary- and secondary-level teachers of reading and writing, as well as pre-service teachers, this one-and-a-half-day conference offers a terrific opportunity to talk to other educators about how to engage with students more effectively. This year, the main presenters are Drs. Janice Dole and Deborah Dean.

Dr. Janice Dole is an experienced education researcher and writer who has published several books. Dr. Dole will be speaking about how elementary and pre-service teachers can implement the state’s core reading standards in their classrooms.

Dr. Deborah Dean, an associate dean and associate chair of English at Brigham Young University, will be speaking about how secondary and pre-service teachers can use the core standards to help their students become stronger writers.

The conference will be held at the Stadium Sky Suites at Weber State University. The registration fee is $210 for one undergraduate and post-baccalaureate credit and $220 for one graduate credit. For non-credit, the fee is $75. The registration fee covers parking, a continental breakfast for both days, all materials needed for the conference, and the cost of all conference sessions for both days.
